This is the trailer for Henry Fool.  I watched all 217 minutes of this super slow, super mediocre film by Hal Hartley.  Out of curiosity, I watched the trailer for Henry Fool’s intended sequel Fay Grim.  Without watching either film, I think one can clearly see these films look nothing alike.  There was absolutely no allusion to Henry being involved in any international plot in Henry Fool.  A movie isn’t a sequel just because the same actors play characters of the same name but behave completely differently, and the main plot stems from something that NEVER happened in the first film.

And yet now I want to see Fay Grim.  Damn it.  It’s like Hal Hartley realized how under-utilized Parker Posey was in Henry Fool and was too lazy to think up a new character name for her.  I don’t know why I’m so interested in Hal Hartley.  He’s a true blue indie filmmaker and he launched a lot of great actors’ careers, but I want his films to be better than they are.  There were a few good things in Henry Fool.. a few.  Three or four.  Maybe I take sick pleasure in improving movies in my head, thinking about what I would do differently.  I enjoy watching bad movies.  Learning what not to do and what doesn’t work might be just as provoking as watching the masters.
