Top Ten YHSBH Movies 2011

Interiors (1978) dir. Woody Allen - This is the film I couldn’t stop recommended this year.  I can’t wait to watch it again now that the year is over.  I found this film in the long list of Woody Allen films I hadn’t yet seen.

Papillon (1973) dir. Franklin J. Schaffner - Again, a film I couldn’t stop talking about.  Steve McQueen + Dustin Hoffman = match made in heaven.  This film came to me from a producer I work with, so many thanks Drew!

Sunset Boulevard (1950) dir. Billy Wilder - My favorite from Wilder, so far.  I’ve been reading a book of interviews with Billy Wilder by Cameron Crowe, and it’s a GEM.  I have quite a list of classics films to see and re-see.

Opening Night (1977) dir. John Cassavetes - If you know me at all, you know my love for Gena Rowlands.  This film was just as crushing as A Woman Under the Influence, so here it is, on the Top Ten list!

Dog Day Afternoon (1975) dir. Sidney Lumet - We didn’t watch this in my “Films of the 70s” class at Emerson College.  Seriously?

Splendor in the Grass (1961) dir. Elia Kazan - Natalie Wood, American Treasure.  RIP?  Thank you to the many people who told me to run-not-walk to see this film.

Party Girl (1995) dir. Daisy von Scherler Mayer - If I ever make a list of Favorite Rom-Coms, Party Girl will surely hold a high ranking.

Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975) dir. Peter Weir - Fantastically haunting and strange, I knew I’d love this film from the start.  Thank you New Beverly Cinema— when I can’t go see your screenings, I troll your calendar for films to rent.

The Red Shoes (1948) dir. Michael Powell, Emeric Pressburger - A classic film I want to own.  That’s high flattery, people.  The last film I bought for myself, just to own, was…………?  I don’t buy movies! I can’t remember!!

The Terminator (1984) dir. James Cameron - Last but not least, as this list is not in any real order.  I’m happy to cross this film off my list, but sad I can’t watch it again for the first time.
