Spoiler Alert

I thought Peggy Sue Got Married was a comedy.  It’s really not.  Instead, it goes to the dark side of traveling back in timeDo you think it would be fun to see your mom as she was 25 years ago?  This film answers that question definitively: No, it would be horribly depressing, and confusing.  (Now-deceased grandparents?  Maybe a little fun!)  If had expected this to be a serious movie, I may have liked it less.  But it was darker than I expected, and I always appreciate a little unexpected darkness.  Although, some of it bordered on terrifying to this soon-to-be-married lady.  I’m so glad I’m not getting married right out of high school in the 60s!!

But who cares about the message of this film, when Nicolas Cage plays the part of Charlie, with one of the most affected Buddy Holly voices of all time?

You get used to it by the end of the film, and it’s actually a great role for Cage, but at first his vocal timber is downright offensive.  And then you forgive him, like Peggy Sue eventually does, like American audiences have been forgiving Nic Cage for nearly 30 years.
