Saturday Night Fever (1977)
(viewed on 10/5/11)
The best part about watching Saturday Night Fever is Airplane!
Other than that, it reminded me of watching The Sugarland Express— a movie trying so very hard to be (what is now called) a 70s film, forcing in as many heavy “meaningful” scenes until the characters are crushed beneath its weight. Ok, we’ve got the dysfunctional family, we’ve got racial tension, couple of rape scenes, couple of brawls, abortion, drugs, suicide, anything else? Religion? How about a drop-out priest? Done. It’s a little much, even against the backdrop of the disco craze.
I guess I’m more of a The Last Days of Disco kinda gal, which might be the exact opposite of Saturday Night Fever.
